Assignment Four (Due April 10)

South Carolina guard Bree Hall reacts during the fourth quarter of a second round game in the NCAA tournament XXXX.

ASSIGNMENT TITLE: March Madness

You don’t need access to a basketball game to cover March Madness. Find a watch party to photograph (at a bar, restaurant or house party) or make portraits of college basketball fans outfitted in their team fashion. Preferably, photograph fans in a scene that says something about college basketball and the place they are watching the game. I’ve shot this type of assignment many times. It can be any type of watch party.

Post 3 photos to our Google classroom on assignment #4, each with a two sentence caption. Caption writing may amount to 60% of your score on this assignment. For the caption writing, we want names of people unless it is a group larger than five. And we need location and date.

You may find it necessary to reach out to a manager at an establishment beforehand — depending on a multitude of factors. If you’re already a regular at a local spot where people watch games, use that if you’re looking for a little less resistance. If not, ask your friends who are sports fans where they go. You’ll also probably want to to people people before photographing them. I’ll normally pick a the spot (light/background) and get whomever sits/stands there. I’ll also keep an eye out for the loudest and best/absurdly dressed fans.

Put your caption in the comments or attach as an additional file. If you’ve attached a caption using metadata, let me know so I can look for it there.
