The Ultimate List of Photography Workshops in the United States

Photography workshops come in different sizes, shapes and flavors. So, before we jump into this giant list of photo workshops, let’s break a few things down.

Size: Workshops are group or private 1-on-1 experiences. If you want more access to your instructor, this is important. Most photo workshops limit group sizes under ten people, but if education and leveling up your skills is a goal, a private workshop is far superior.

Flavor: Workshops are attractive because of the destination and/or instructor. Some workshops, you may not know your instructor until the day of the workshop. Others, there’s never a doubt as to who you will be interacting with and it’s the entire reason for its existence. And of course some workshops balance this value.

Shape: There are different genres of photography and workshops typically concentrate on one. The most common is the landscape photo workshop, there are many others.

Other Considerations

Price: Photo experiences labeled as workshops can range in price from $99 to $5,000+. But you probably aren’t getting into a true workshop-level experience until you invest several hundred dollars. Some workshops include travel and lodging. Most don’t. Some workshops are more like mentoring experiences and others are like trips to McDonalds.

Workshop or Tour? Some photography experiences marketed as workshops are basically walking tours with cameras. Nothing wrong with these experiences just be aware.

Length? Photography workshops are typically 1-3 day affairs with some ½ day opportunities from some.

Unique offerings: Some workshops offer unique experiences on a boat or with an instructor who is also a certified tour guide. Keep an eye out for these distinguishers.
