Hurricane Isaias, like many Gulf Hurricanes in North America recently, rapidly intensified on its approach of the Florida panhandle where it made landfall near Destin on Friday near 8:30pm.

Before striking the coast the storm exceeded most forecasts and reached category three status during the afternoon. Maximum sustained wind speeds were recorded at 105 mph. Rainfall totals surpassed 12 inches in multiple communities in Florida and Alabama.

The Shoal River near Crestview is expected to crest near major flood stage.

According to PowerOutage.com, about 850,000 customers are without power in Florida, Alabama and Georgia.

The National Hurricane Center declared Isaias a post-tropical cyclone at 2 a.m. ET on Saturday morning.
